Finesse Fastpitch Website Design
Finesse Fastpitch is my first fastpitch softball club website design, which I rebuilt in WordPress in 2022. (Completed on April 7, 2022 – Check it out!) The club began many years ago, when the game was actually slow pitch. Their old website was built on eteamz, a freebie website platform. It was horrible. I took it over and designed it in Joomla, upgraded it twice, and finally recreated it in WordPress.
Fastpitch, Fast-Pitch, or Fast Pitch?
The sport of fastpitch has grown tremendously in the past 20 years. There’s little debate in the softball world as to how you write or say fastpitch. Few clubs add the hyphen or separate the words. When I first became involved with Finesse, my daughter played the first of seven years with them in 2007. After a couple years it became clear she would be in the club through high school graduation. So, I offered to re-design and maintain their website. I’ve been their webmaster ever since.
Initially they had 5 teams. Today they have 50 teams and are still growing with teams from Michigan and Ohio. While the site is scalable to for all those teams, it’s time to freshen and modernize the website design. I’m in the process right now (as of February, 2022) of migrating it to WordPress. As with some of my older websites, the themes and layouts are looking dated and in need of a makeover.
Migrating Joomla to WordPress
For many reasons I’ve decided to move my websites to WordPress, which I’ve detailed in my other Portfolio posts. I’ll be designing their new site, while the current site remains active. It won’t be made public until we’re ready to flip the switch and take down the old one.
Aside from the new theme, bells and whistles, and functionality, the main thing that must be right are the player profiles. These are links to a 3rd party website that posts each players academic, athletic, and contact information. It’s how they get recruited to play college softball.
The club will be adding features for online payment processing and communications for the parents, players, and coaches. It will also provide an enhanced means of managing the club for the director, board members, and the webmaster (yours truly). I’m excited to work on this project and for the official launch of the new website.
